This is the first step in the process. The purpose of this step is to
find out if your refractive error falls within the present criteria to
make you a possible candidate for LASIK.
You need a certain amount of information before you can
even consider the surgery. This step in the process provides you with
various methods of receiving this information. You may find out that you
are not comfortable with the procedure and its potential risks and complications
along with the probability of achieving your desired results and the procedure
is not for you. Or, you may feel confident, as many have, and
wish to proceed.
It is quite difficult to learn enough about LASIK by reading and watching
videotapes. Dr. Kursar feels a one-on-one discussion is needed to make
you feel comfortable with your understanding of the process. It is at
this time that many of your questions will be answered concerning the
numerous details required for successful completion of your surgery. The
financial situation in your individual case will be thoroughly discussed
at this time.
A complete and comprehensive examination of your eyes is needed to identify
any abnormalities, which are potential risks to your surgery. Also, a
baseline measurement of your glasses need must be made in an effort to
prevent under and over corrections. This will require your eyes being
dilated, and you will need a driver to drive you home as the dilation
may last several hours. Part of your examination, the topography, is only
available at the facility at which you will be having your LASIK, therefore
a trip to the facility will be needed sometime prior to your LASIK. This
will be a good time to make any financial arrangements with the facility
since your payment will be directly to the facility, who will in turn
reimburse Dr. Kursar.
Dr. Kursar will carry out your LASIK at ST. LOUIS REFRACTIVE SURGERY CENTER,
INC. Dr. Kursar and his staff will assist in making this decision. The
entire process will be outlined for you in detail prior to your surgery.
:
The postoperative period is very important to the overall success of your
LASIK. This will be carried out by Dr. Kursar and his staff or by a trained
Optometrist of your choosing in your area who has agreed to perform the
same level of care, which Dr. Kursar requires of himself and his staff.
This care lasts for the minimum of a year, is covered by the global fee,
and is required of all patients receiving LASIK surgery by Dr. Kursar.
Enhancements are rare, but are occasionally needed. Under and over corrections
are unusual, but occasionally occur. Correction of these problems with
the laser may be possible depending upon the type of error. Correction
will require an additional laser procedure, often of a lesser nature.
These procedures, if needed, will be provided for 6 months without an
additional surgical fee. Only a small fee may be made by the facility
to cover the costs of disposables used.
Dr. Kursar sincerely hopes that this explanation will make you feel comfortable
with the process and make your LASIK a pleasant process in achieving your
desired results in correcting your vision to the best of his ability.
